Amaretto is a type of Italian almond liqueur. The history of this drink, whose story is deep and sad, dates back to the 1500s. According to the narrative, Italian painter Bernadino Luini arrives in the town of Saronno, northwest of Milan. There, he stayed in an old inn and fell in love with a very beautiful woman there. To declare his love for the woman, he puts almonds in the brandy and presents it to him. The literal meaning of Amaretto means ‘a little bit of pain’. Thus, the name of this special drink is inspired by love. Amaretto can be drunk alone or can be used in coffees, ice creams, cakes and creamy desserts.
